After an evaluation, Aiden was diagnosed as autistic. Aiden s mother agreed to a referral to the Birth to Three program, a program that supports families who have children with developmental delays. He spent more and more time at the window watching the cars go by and less time engaging in any activity.

After a few weeks, Aiden s teacher, Miss Beth, decided that Aiden s quiet demeanor and inability to engage with other children was perhaps a result of an underlying developmental delay rather than shyness. He did not interact with the other children, but since this was his first experience in a group setting, it was important to give him time to get comfortable. He was quiet and appeared to be very observant of his new environment. Aiden was an engaging child with a sweet disposition and a bright smile. He was almost two years old and his mother felt it was time to enroll him in a program where he would socialize with his peers. In early 2010, Aiden came to a YWCA Early Learning Center.
